says a "Homer" who has pondered the very same questions.
In truth, however, I have never truly regretted attending any Ram game I've ever been too. I say 'truly' to draw a distinction... I have left games, (immediately afterward), in abject disgust and no small degree of depression... but it has never been long-lived. Usually the disgust and depression gone before I get back home.
The 1980 SB loss to Pittsburg that I attended I didn't even get out of the stadium until a comforting warmth came over me.. they had played well, they had left nothing on the field.
Also, maybe anything truly appreciated must come about through some pain. Redemption, if you will. I'm not sure the 'amount' of pain is a factor... certainly we current Ram fans know as well as anyone what long periods of suffering is... and the fact that we're still here? I'm not a philosopher but there is something good in that.
Every game I've attended, going through varying degrees of hardship to get to the game, I was aware they could lose. How could it be any other way and still be appreciated? I often say nothing will ever stop me from being a Ram's fan... but if the Ram's were guaranteed a win in every game they played... that would probably do it.
After the opening game you can't tell me the players aren't feeling some trepidation, "fear" if you will. No different than what you're going through, actually. Point is...there isn't a 'finish line' in watching a favorite sports team. The point is to stay in the race. - JamesJM
