I don't live and die by this anymore. 2007-2011 took some of the window out of the sails that may never come back. I was far more "oh well" about the loss Monday Night than anything and didn't really dwell on it.
But I love the NFL and would really like to simply have a vested interest in the season- the whole season. I kept thinking back to the 2008 opener- Rams lose @PHIL 38-3. And it really wasn't that close. Should have been 55-3. I remember thinking late in the game "this season is over." And I was right. And that's a crappy feeling to have.
I don't recall how I felt after the 2014 blowout loss vs. MIN but I think I had higher expectations for this year's opener. Maybe it was the simple assumption that SF was really bad and we just
had to win this one. I don't know.
The game is being shown locally here in the Boston area which is nice. With many more 4PM ET starts they can get on TV more here. It will be fun to see regular season games return to the Coliseum and the home crowd and all that. I've seen enough of Fisher as the Rams coach to know they can rise up and beat anyone on any given Sunday, and they have. I suppose I should have also realized they could lose to anybody. And it's a new year. Maybe weeks from now the 49ers will be 4-2 and playing pretty well and we'll view the opener differently. Maybe not.
I am going to the Saints game in late November and Patriots game the following Sunday. Our New Orleans trip is booked regardless and it's a great city to visit no matter what. But if the Rams tank I'm selling the Patriots tickets. I don't need that kind of self-abuse...
I just don't want this to be 2008.... Come on Rams, you're better than this. Aren't you?....
