Why? Because most of us grade teams based on their skill set. The Niners over the last couple of years have lost many of their skill players. But what they have done is draft very well for lineman on both sides of the LOS. What they showed tonight is that you can win in this league w/o all -pro skill players if you have outstanding lines. That and one heck of a middle linebacker. Gabbert is not that much better than Keenum but he looks sooooo much better precisely because of his O line. Given protection Keenum makes those passes that looked positively horrible. But after you have been smashed and viciously thrown to the ground as often as he was -well you just don't play as well as you otherwise would. Until the Rams can pass protect and open space for Gurley as well as the other teams they will not be very good. I don't think its a matter of coaching. They have a good O line coach. It may simply be a matter of player personnel -and that doesn't speak well for whoever is responsible for acquiring linemen. It could also be organizational. IMO the last thing they needed to do was lose all those draft choices for a skill player. Plenty of those qbs around throughout the draft. What they needed to do was draft some O line prospects like the Niners have done with at least some of those lost selections. So who is responsible for that? Maybe the entire organization.
