I don't know because you can't see what he's doing until he flashes into the picture and wallops the guy. But it's "possible" he was engaged with some other player, turned to see a player on the other team running his way with the ball, thought he was hot dogging it or something and crushed him not realizing he had already been down.

I'm not saying that's what happened. It's possible he's really just that much of a douche and realized exactly what was going on and clobbered him like that right in the middle of the field with all eyes on him anyway. It is just so egregious that it's hard to imagine somebody would really do that.
