IMO it has nothing to do with Fish wanting to stroke his own ego. He's a comfortable guy in his position and power and even when pressed during conferences on who makes the decisions he says it's a team.
I think it's all about them controlling what gets out. They have let a lot less insider info out than some other teams when it comes to player evaluation, progress, etc. The conversations with Les and Fish undoubtedly have the stuff they're keeping a wrap on. So yeah it's definitely a conscious decision.
