We'll get our #1 WR someday. But since I'm assuming that we draft in the low twenties in the 2nd round next year, Snead will have to pull a rabbit out of his hat to get one.
Then again, he's done that before all over the roster, huh?
Know why I'm not particularly worried about lacking a "#1 WR"?
Because we now have multiple weapons on this roster and coaches that seem to know how to use them.
Goff
Gurley
Higbee
Austin
Cooper
Spruce
Throw in Britt and Kendricks plus an ascending OL?
Yeah, I think we can do plenty of damage with that group. Several of those guys require special game planning by opposing D's. Last year only Austin and Gurley required such attention.
Add in a QB that can threaten the entire field and you have a very combustible mixture, IMO.
I like the weapons we’ve added too but I’m curious on who you feel requires special game planning? The only additional player that I’m confident will require that right now is Higbee. It’s too soon to tell on Cooper. And the thing is, they are both still just rookies.
Excellent question, dz.
We agree that the following are gifted playmakers that require some degree of scheming or packages?
Gurley
Austin
Higbee
That, alone, is probably more than most teams present.
To a lesser degree, I think the D must meanwhile account for Cooper and/or Spruce. Spruce seemed unstoppable vs the Cowboys, for example.
Then we add in Goff. He'll struggle at first, of course. But once he becomes comfortable, I expect him to require some extra pressure or different looks, because otherwise he could surgically attack the pass D with these assorted playmaker weapons. All the while they benefit from an improving OL.
That's 5 players that eventually should keep opposing DC's up at night.
Nice synergy, huh? At least on the drawing board. Lol.
