"The Rams publicly are slow-playing Goff's development and downplaying expectations in the short term. I still believe that he is on track to start Week 1 against the 49ers."
I've been of this same opinion myself now from what I've seen from him in camp. They're keeping the hoopla down on the kid, which is a good plan. They pulled him from that game last Saturday IMO more because of the hits he took scaring the staff than any real concern for left shoulder soreness. And Wyche did a good job of looking deeper and seeing that the kid's outing wasn't all that bad. He was in a real nice rhythm that drive that Coop couldn't haul in that pass.
I also rewatched Mannion's snaps and he did some good things. What I did not like was in addition to his INT he basically threw what should have been a pick six to the same DB earlier in the game. So I don't think he represents what the Rams are looking for, which is low turnover leadership at the position.
Where Goff made his mistake was the protection. The stunt was poor comms up front by the OL. Hopefully playing with the ones will help to counter an outstanding KC defense that will be bringing the heat on him right out the gate on Saturday, and if he handles that well I think the conversation will begin to change re: who will be starting.
