Snead and McVay have done a very good job of finding, drafting, signing and developing quality depth all over the roster. Primarily at WR and DB. You might say TE as well - they had Mundt, then Hopkins has come on and Blanton played well down the stretch. OL is maybe not the best, but Anchrum and Jackson are 7th round picks- and look like good players. the same can be said for Shelton - who's moved up.
I feel like the 2 weakest areas are, and continue to be QB and RB. I'm not sure why it's so hard for them to find quality RB's in the late rounds or as UDFA's. Henderson and Akers were second round picks. Who have we had since then (not known veteran FA)? Anyone to challenge for more playing time? Anything beyond ST and camp reps?
Same thing with backup QB. Another year, another season of underwhelming back-up QB 'competition'. Have we had anyone of note on the roster in the last several years? Maybe and I just don't remember.
Maybe it's like this around the league. Mostly you hear about back-ups when they've lost the competition to be starters - Sam Darnold, Drew Locke, etc. You look at what the Cincinnati back ups did to us on Saturday, but do you think you'll hear from them again this year? And if you do, its means Burrow's hurt and if it's bad, their season is over.
