The Dallas Cowboys appear to be headed toward a very different specialists group in 2022.

The team released Greg Zuerlein on Friday before he entered the final year of his contract with Dallas. Zuerlein made 63 of 76 field goals (82.9%) in his two seasons with the Cowboys and 75 of 84 extra points (89.3%), while also handling kickoff duties.

Earlier this week, The Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken also reported that Bryan Anger’s most lucrative contract offer this month is unlikely to come from the Cowboys.

The veteran punter who made his first career Pro Bowl last season while outperforming a minimum contract will attract a much higher market this month than he did last offseason. The Cowboys are expected to go value shopping at the position again rather than engage in a bidding war.

More moves: The Cowboys waived/injured tight end Blake Jarwin, a likelihood following his recent hip surgery. The expectation now is he’ll clear waivers, and the team will pay him $2M of his $4.5M salary next season, only $1.2M of which will count against salary cap as an injury protection benefit under Article 45 of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement.

-- Dallas also waived running back Ito Smith and defensive back Reggie Robinson, and released wide receiver Robert Foster.
