LA Rams get more than sacks in Von Miller trade

They’re also getting a mentor to many young pass rushers around the NFL

The Los Angeles Rams blockbuster acquisition of pass rush specialist Von Miller from the Denver Broncos brings more to LA than a stellar history of productivity.

Along with averaging 11 sacks and 22 quarterback hits yearly for 10 seasons, he brings an ability to pass his knowledge on to his peers. That’s not only good news for the defense as a whole, but for the Rams young edge players as well.

For the last five years, he has hosted the Von Miller Pass Rush Summit. In what started as a reason to get together for a workout with then Atlanta Falcon, Vic Beasley, the summit has morphed into a yearly event that attracts over 35 defensive players. He’s brought past, current and future pass rushing stars together for a day of film study, class room lessons, and on-field work.

Miller told the Denver Post, “I feel so comfortable in my game. I feel so comfortable in the type of player that I am and that I can help guys. I feel like that will be part of my legacy”.


The list of players who have participated in the summit reads like a who’s-who of NFL stars. Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack, Cameron Jordan, Calais Campbell, and Shaq Barrett have traded techniques with upcoming stars Bradley Chubb, Arik Armstead, Chandler Jones, and the Bosa brothers. Current LA nose tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day has attended, as well as former Rams, Michael Brockers and Morgan Fox.

Coaches have included former super stars Demarcus Ware and Warren Sapp, D-line guru Chuck Smith and bringing a QB’s perspective, Doug Flutie.

Terrell Lewis and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo have both flashed potential this season, but being used in rotational roles while learning some tricks and techniques from a certified pass rush star can only improve their overall games. Youngsters Chris Garrett and Jamir Jones will be the biggest benefactors, the lessons they absorb will be invaluable to their futures.
