Solid win by the Browns tonight with a breakout performance by their young RB. Their D didn't look particularly dominant but it was good enough.
What struck me was Keenum's efficiency. He didn't set the world on fire but could you really tell much of a difference between what he did and what Baker usually does? Mayfield is probably better overall but by how much? Of course, as they always do, they showed all the QB's the expansion Browns have had since they came back in '99 so it makes this conversation a little more nuanced that it might be.
For, whatever Mayfield is lacking, at the end of the day he's provided a level of stability and continuity that the Browns haven't really had. Easy to see where he could be better but do they really want to start the carousel again? I'm actually reminded of the Rams. They have had various eras where they struggled to find a QB they could rely on. So, in a vacuum, the Browns should probably not renew Mayfield's deal next year considering that they got comparatively decent production from Keenum...presumably any starting caliber QB they brought in would provide the same.
