Colts could be without QB Carson Wentz when they host Rams in Week 2
LA traded for the quarterback with fewer health issues

The Indianapolis Colts traded a conditional first round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Carson Wentz this offseason, with the main condition being that if Wentz plays in at least 75% of the snaps, Philly would receive a day one pick. Friday’s news that Wentz has suffered a foot injury that could require surgery immediately puts that 75% mark in doubt.

Update on #Colts QB Carson Wentz: He will see noted foot specialist Robert Anderson in the near future, sources tell me and @RapSheet. A firmer timeline for his return will be established at that point. For now, the team is taking solace in Week 1 still being 6 weeks away.

At this point, it sounds as though the Colts are cautiously optimistic that Wentz didn’t suffer an injury that would require him to start the season on PUP or injured reserve. But it does sound as though head coach Frank Reich might have to go the entire preseason and most of training camp with backup quarterback Jacob Eason taking reps with the 1s.

All options are on the table, including a minor surgical procedure. The hope is to avoid it, but it’s possible. Either way, if Carson Wentz misses games it’s not likely to be many. [t.co]

The Los Angeles Rams — who also traded for a starting quarterback this offseason, perhaps giving up so much as a way to avoid trading for Wentz — will make their first road trip of the season in Week 2 when they go to Indianapolis to face the Colts. If Wentz is back by then, how ready will he be to start for his new team? To play with his new teammates?

Will he even be back by then?

For now, it looks like Philadelphia is a lot closer to getting a second round pick in return for Wentz than a first rounder. The terms also stipulate that the Colts would ship a first rounder to the Eagles if Wentz plays in 70% of the snaps and they make the playoffs.
