The bloom is off. Anybody hear Luck's praises being sung lately? Injuries, playing for a defensive minded HC (that fields lousy defenses), a sub par WR corp, average at best Oline, and simply not enough good players on the team, have exposed the reality that Luck can't elevate a team all by himself. He is not on par with Brady or Rogers even though he was pronounced by the media to be a generational player. After 5 years in the league he's proven to be more Andy Dalton than Peyton Manning.
Goff is the latest NFL golden boy. At 23, Goff is doing things that Luck was expected to do, including a perfect passer rating after 33 attempts in a single game. Expectations were much lower for Goff, especially after the disastrous rookie season under HC Fisher and his High School coaching staff. So it has given him room and time to grow under McVay.
But after last year, and now after he's elevated his game to yet another level after 4 games this year, he and Mahomes are the QBs everyone is talking about.
Luck is a good QB. Great tools. But he still suffers from running too much and taking on D players for that extra yard instead of sliding to protect himself. He'd be wise to force a trade to a good team with an offensive minded HC. But is he coachable? I'm not so sure. I think he's so confident in his ability that he's gonna do what he's gonna do.
