Just my opinion, folks. Disagree if you must. Better yet, shower this thread with praise!!
Even if you're in love with a player, you don't take him with the first pick in the draft if it's very, very likely he's still there much later -- especially if you have another pick a few spots after that. That other pick all but guarantees you'll be able to draft him anyway.
Instead, you take the best player in the draft -- arguably Barkley or Chubb -- and then grab your QB at the 4 spot. Given that Mayfield's considered almost unanimously the fourth best QB, and barely a First Rounder overall, he's still there. Heck, you likely could trade down a good bit with your second pick and still get him.
When you have only one pick in the round, you can't always play great chess like that. But the Browns had two, and two of the first four picks. They were set. But they decided to stay pure, draft their guy with the first pick, and then settle for a very good corner, but not a Barkley or a Chubb, etc.
IMO, they didn't maximize their picks at all. And that's not even considering Mayfield and his off the field issues, his similarity with Johnny Football, etc. etc.
In short, I take Barkely or Chubb first, trade down a few spots and add picks . . . and still get my QB.
