First, let me say that I’m on board with the Cooks trade at this point. A known quantity that more than replaces the Watkins departure. Almost certainly a better player than anyone that they expected to be there at #23.
But they’ve gotta extend him or this is another Watkins type one year rental fiasco. Not gonna sugarcoat it.
Here’s the thing at this point in a whirlwind offseason as I see it.
We now have no picks until late in the 3rd round. That’s not a good thing, right?
But we do now have three 4ths and four 6ths. That’s a pretty good thing, especially given how Snead finds late gems.
We now know that there will be no stud Edge player taken at #23, nor a shrewd trade down yielding a 2nd and 3rd for multiple possible starters. Sigh...
Here’s some more good news when we step back from all this wheeling and dealing. Our “holes” are now few and far between. Isn’t that the name of the game?
Look at our O roster. Where are the holes? Maybe some question about our TE corps? Depth on OL? Otherwise, I see top tier talent almost everywhere. Scary good talent, tbh.
As to the D? I see question marks at one OLB position and one ILB position. With a 3rd rounder and three 4ths in a reportedly deep LB draft, both of these positions seem very likely to be filled. In fact, I suspect that this is precisely how S&M plus Wade saw it when they decided to pursue the 3 big trades plus the Suh signing.
I see a complete Ram team in all 3 phases emerging from this offseason. Other than the 2 LB’s mentioned, I see a BPA draft designed to provide depth and promising development players, certainly including on our OL.
Exactly how Snead has previously described an ideal offseason scenario.
Like I said when I started this thread, there is plenty of good news and bad news contained in this offseason depending on how one chooses to look at it.
