Was the one year rental on Sammy worth it?

March 13, 2018 03:50AM
It cost the Rams a 2nd and EJ Gaines to rent Sammy for 1 year. That's expensive.
Now the Rams will no doubt get a 3rd rounder back as a comp pick. So that helps a lot.
But, equally no doubt this is not the way Les Snead pictured this going.

All that said: it is very hard to turn around a perennial losing team. If someone were to say to you: For EJ Gaines and a forfeiture of a 2nd round pick, I'll give you an 11 win year and a home playoff game, would you have done it? My answer would have been: "In a heartbeat".

Essentially that's what the Rams did. Sammy had a lot to do with the Rams turning things around. Nobody has denied that.
So I'm going to choose to look at it that way.....and move on.

After Sneads FA acquisitions and draft last year, the hiring of McVay and Phillips, and the acquisition pre-FA of Peters and Talib, to get all upset with him over Watkins being offered crazy dollars to go the Chiefs and refusing to match that price, Snead gets a mulligan from me. Nobody bats 1.000 because they don't control every aspect of a situation.

  Calculated for "X"

20% of his catches were TDs, 28% of rec TDs were Sammy's

Would Rams be 11-5 last year without him?
