Seahawks are good, no doubt, and until they're dethroned they are still the Kings of the NFC West.
Texans are a good team as well.
But the "Legion of Boom" allowed 38 points against them last night.
And the supposed "great" Houston defense allowed 41.
This isn't an anomaly.
BEFORE this game (that is, through 7 games) Houston was 18th and Seattle 17th in overall defense according to NFL.com stats. After this game, both will see those rankings drop.
Houston is NOT a great defense; they are now averaging over 28 ppg allowed. Seahawks now averaging 21; not bad but not elite. Rams averaging 19 allowed and that after a slow start on defense that allowed a lot of points against them especially with the Niners.
Consider this; at this point in the season the Rams just came off a shut out against Arizona, while the Seahawks allowed 38 on their home field against a rookie QB.
Once the league adjusts to Watson his lofty numbers and points scored will return to earth (don't get me wrong, Watson is a seriously good young QB and offensive weapon). It'll be interesting to see what Wade Phillips does to defend against Watson. They should do pretty well as the Rams have excellent D speed and are familiar with how to defend an ultra-mobile QB.
As a Rams fan of course I rooted for the Texans and was disappointed in the outcome. But at the same time it is clear that Seattle is ripe for the plucking.
If the Rams can beat the Giants on Sunday (and they should) they will be tied with Seattle for the NFC West even though Seattle at the moment holds the tiebreaker.
Rams just need to stick to their knitting and be solid in all 3 phases of the game. They're going to lose a few after the bye; but Seattle isn't going to win out either.
No predictions; going to be interesting.
