I know this is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay premature, but stick with me for a minute.
The Rams have a core of key players who are under contract for 2018, including Goff, Gurley, Whitworth, Woods, Kupp, Higbee, Everett, Donald (probably will need a new K, but is technically under contract), Brockers, Quinn (if they want him to stay), Barron and Webster.
I also think that, if they want to keep Watkins, they will.
In addition to the core, there will be several key returning role/depth players, and the Rams have the potential for real continuity, which is an underrated characteristic of a football team.
Now add to all that a full year in the McVay/Phillips system, AND some carefully chosen FAs (the Rams will have spending $) and draft picks (finally have a first round pick again!) to obtain players who really fit the schemes...
Let me just say it: I think the Rams can be Super Bowl contenders in 2018.
Don't get me wrong, I have not, in any way, given up on 2017. I think that if (unlike last Sunday) we get some bounces in our favor, we can have a winning record and go on to the playoffs. In the end, though, I do think there are enough teams ahead of us that I... well... won't get ahead of myself and start thinking about playing in February.
What I will say about the first 5 games of this year is that I can see the plan. I can see it developing. I can see how it can work.
We are ascending.
