If I understand it correctly, if a rookie who is drafted sits out a year, he can re-enter the draft next year (is that right?) and the team that drafted him simply loses the pick.
But what happens if a player like Donald who is under contract just decides not to play for a year unless he gets a big raise? He decides he is going to take a strategy of pay me more or trade me? And, he is willing to simply not report for an entire season?
Does his current team at some point no longer control his fate?
I get it that if there were super hard feelings on one side or the other (or both) that some pragmatic decisions might have to be made such as the team trading the player for no other reason than they are able to get a high draft pick in return (versus getting nothing if he simply doesn't play at all).
But how about cap ramifications for a player who refuses to report and honor his contract?
How about roster ramifications?
If someone knows (and isn't just guessing like me) could you help me out here?
