LA Rams OLB Robert Quinn Makes 5 Most Gifted Edge Rushers List by Matt Williamson

Matt Williamson recently released an article on the “5 most gifted edge defenders in NFL” over at FanRag, and the Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Robert Quinn found his way on the list. This is what Matt had to say about him:
Quinn is the prototypical 4-3 defensive end, but could be playing more of a role similar to what Miller does with the Broncos in the scheme of new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Either way, Quinn has so much talent that he is capable of doing whatever is asked of him. His first step, burst off the ball and closing speed could be the best in the entire sport right now.
Like Ansah, Quinn has a large and impressive frame. With a wrestling background, you can see his use of leverage and the toughness in which he plays the game while showing rare fluidity in all his movements. Injuries have derailed him somewhat, and that goes back to his final year of college when he didn’t even play a down. But don’t be surprised if Quinn once again becomes a household name in 2017. He is set up to have a gigantic season.
No doubt. I agree completely. In his last 16 games, he’s managed 9.0 sacks, which isn’t great, but it’s not bad either. Outside of a lack of health the past few years, Quinn’s game really hasn’t changed much. As a former wrestler with an amazing physical makeup, Quinn has routinely taken advantage of slow tackles with his quick first step and insane bend around the edge. Quinn also has a very impressive amount of forced fumbles, which means he’s not only sacking the QB, but he’s creating also creating a major play.
Let’s hope for a healthy 16 game season for Robert Quinn, because he is certainly one of the players that could benefit the most under the tutelage from one of the best defensive coordinators of all time.
