If Fisher won't go to Goff, which frankly I think is his only job-saving move (because 7-9 with the rookie QB learning will be at least somewhat more palatable than with him on the bench), then certainly at this Bye some other shifts need to happen. Don't they?
He points at the WRs. And I for one am pretty down on Tavon Austin... The guy averages
4.7 yards per time he is targeted. Not exactly an efficient part of the passing game. But the $42M man isn't getting benched. (side rant: I still cannot for the life of me understand that contract extension... picking up his 5th year option was gift enough... Don't extend him two years early). So OK then, bench Quick and Thomas and activate Cooper and Spruce. Isn't it at least time they see real action?
And on the OL, I'm ready to admit Robinson just isn't the guy... Move Saffold to LT and start Brown and Wichmann at OG. I like those two and Havenstein. Get them all on the field together. Heck, maybe trade Robinson before the deadline.
I like Keenum and think he's played better than his numbers say. Yes, two of the four INTs Sunday were not on him (especially the pick six). But if Goff has better pocket presence and a better arm to loosen defenses maybe it's time. And I do think their pass protection is good enough and with Britt, Gurley, Kendricks, etc. around him (plus bringing in Cooper and Spruce,
plus perhaps Higbee would get loose) it could at least make things interesting.
But again, being 3-4 is really disappointing and it's pretty hard to see a path to better than 7-9 now. They will have to rattle off 3 of 4 wins right after the Bye.
