I realize that journalists have obligations to fill space.
But it sure gets old reading the disingenuous stuff about players who disappoint or who shine in Preseason games......especially game 1. And that goes for all the teams.
It's one thing to point out the obvious (those who played well and those who didn't), but the implications are more about being disappointed or not disappointed in a player, and that perhaps that player isn't an NFL player after all.
Vets who "don't play well" in preseason are also pointed out, but in reality they are guarding their health and aren't about to start wearing out their bodies or showing all their moves in practice games.
Rookies who "don't play well" are, well, rookies. They've had little time to acclimate to the NFL, learn the playbook, and do things the way their new coaches want them done. They're thinking instead of reacting, making mistakes as they learn, etc.
These games are just glorified practice scrimmages and have to be taken as such. It's the film that matters, along with staying healthy.
