It was a great sports weekend in LA. No matter how you look at it this was a historical weekend.
If he were still alive Huell Howser would have been at the Coliseum just to take it all in and then show it to us on public television. He may have started his show by looking into the camera as he often did and saying...........
"Welcome to our show tonight. Sit back and be prepared to witness history my friends. For not only are we visiting a California and National historical monument the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Which by the way was built for the 1932 Olympics but we have a special treat in store for you all! Tonight, we shall see the return of the first professional major league sports franchise in the history of not only Los Angeles but of California and the entire west coast of the United States as well. While there have been many professional sports teams in LA and California this one was the first from a recognized major league sport. The National Football League. They arrived here in 1946 and what followed in the years to come were major league baseball franchises and NBA franchises and NHL franchises and even major league soccer franchises. But, they were the first!
After nearly 50 years of being in California and Los Angeles this state treasure went away for 21 years but, they have returned and their return is why we are here today my friends. Let me introduce you or re-introduce you as it were to the Los Angeles Rams! Truly a historic and special franchise that led the way of all major league sports franchises in California. A distinction that truly makes the Los Angeles Rams one of California's Gold!"
And this is how I imagine old Huell would do it.
