Recency bias rules here. When the Rams beat the Vikings...our OLine coach was heralded as a savant. Lose to the Dolphins and McVay is an idiot for starting three vets. Allow no sacks against the Seahawks and Patriots and hope abounds that the line is rounding into form but the skill positions all lack explosiveness. Finally, a dozen plays where the line gets beat against the Eagles and they all suddenly suck.
Without continuity, inefficiency is inevitable. It doesn't matter what team you choose. All Ram championships were enabled by unusually heathy OLines. All losing seasons were marked by revolving door adjustments based on injury. It's been this way since I've paid attention back to the 70's. When ED was traded to the Colts, Charles White and Greg Bell both had 1,000 yard seasons because that was one of the most consistent lines in history.
I contend that if the original line of Jackson, Avila, Jackson/Limmer, Dotson, Havenstein were healthy all year, this team would have no more than two losses and this narrative would be moot.
