6 of the Rams 10 Picks Were at the Senior Bowl

April 28, 2024 06:06PM
Braden Fiske, DT, Florida State
Kamren Kinchens, S, Miami
Brennan Jackson, EDGE, Washington State
Tyler Davis, DT, Clemson
Joshua Karty, K, Stanford
Beaux Limmer, C, Arkansas

WR Jordan Whittington was invited but couldn't participate because of a hamstring issue.

That has to be a record for Rams draft picks who played in the Senior Bowl.

Here are a few samples of practice reports--

IOL Beaux Limmer, Arkansas

Limmer came into the week as an athletic, center-only prospect for a zone-based run scheme who I was a fan of due to his wiry strength, use of leverage and stickiness as a run-blocker. Some of those traits were on display during the team portion of practice.

Unexpectedly, the movement he created during pods (double-teams/combo blocks) impressed.

During one rep, Limmer was the point man on an inside zone combo against Texas nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat, whom the Longhorns listed at 362 pounds. Limmer displaced Sweat vertically several yards off the ball using superior leverage with tight, inside hands. That was one of the four or five best individual reps I saw all day.

Limmer's low pad level, inside hands and ability to reset the line of scrimmage also popped a few other times in what was a very strong Day 1 for the former Razorback.

S Kamren Kinchens, Miami

Kinchens looked like the best safety on the field in Mobile. It's only one day, but his status as the top-ranked safety in this year's draft class may not come into question.

He showcased his versatility in man coverage, as a deep safety, or filling the alley in the run game. That versatility on the back end should continue to appear throughout the week.

DT Braden Fiske (Florida State) - My goodness does this dude's motor run hot. Fiske is a monster in the middle with excellent play speed, power, and snap timing. He was wrecking run plays during team drills in National practice.

OL Beaux Limmer, Arkansas

Limmer's lack of girth (301 lbs) and size hurt him Wednesday in one-on-ones, including getting trampled once by Texas nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat, resulting in a few more clean losses than during the first day of practice.

He still had some nice moments where he was able to get inside of defenders and drive them off their spot. But his narrow, lean frame and build make him a more streaky player who can be taken advantage of in certain isolated matchups against some of the bigger, longer and stronger nose tackles.

DL Tyler Davis, Clemson

After a quiet day on Tuesday, Davis posted a strong showing Wednesday.

He logged several wins during the one-on-one pass rushes and made a couple of nice plays against the run during the team session, recording at least one tackle for loss and another near the line of scrimmage.

S Kamren Kinchens, Miami

Kinchens' versatility is so good, and it's on display so often that everyone knows about it.

Whether the first-team All-American is aligned as a deep defender or spread out over the slot in man coverage, he shows off his smooth backpedal and quick feet to transition. He plays with a high motor that takes him all over the field.

Although Wednesday's practice wasn't full-go, Kinchens flew downhill against the run and even put himself in position to deliver big hits on passes if they were to be live reps.

2024 NFL Draft: Biggest Winners and Losers from the Senior Bowl

Winner: Florida State's Braden Fiske, Interior DL Strength

While the offensive lines in Mobile tended to dominate, a few defensive tackles showed out as well.

Coaches will love Florida State's Braden Fiske throughout this process. He's a good athlete who's constantly working hard at all times.

During the week, Fiske had his issues dealing with length since he has only 31-inch arms. He'll get stuck on blocks. However, his first-step explosiveness, raw power and red-hot motor makes him a difficult assignment, to the point where the Western Michigan transfer nearly notched a safety during Saturday's contest.

Scouts will also appreciate Fiske's unselfishness.

Because of injuries and opt-outs, Senior Bowl executive Jim Nagy asked Fiske to flip squads for the game, which he obliged. The move didn't seem to affect Fiske, who constantly re-established the line of scrimmage and played in the backfield. Furthermore, the 295-pound defender didn't give up on plays and could be seen chasing ball-carriers downfield.
