OT ... a position of need? Maybe? Maybe a swing OT? I have no idea, but there are a decent number of prospects this year (and next) so we'll likely quietly looking over them in case they fall to a place of extreme value.
For those that aren't familiar with my process, I track players through their entire college career. I do not have access to anything beyond what announcers may say, and mostly I'm watching for specific skillsets that are valuable to me. These change over time, but not by a lot. My actual process of watching film has grown and I definitely get influenced by the other posters, because I trust their eyes. I call it "Blink" scout because my brother came up with the name after reading the book Blink, where people use rapid cognition to make assessments, which is kind of my thing. I don't give that many notes ... Deadpool has that covered. And I go way beyond draftable players. I generally italicize guys that may not be obvious that I think will be great values.
Also, a note I forgot. Practice squad players are more relevant and make more money than ever before, so filling that squad is not only important, it's really like a minor league team getting our coaching so we are going to draw good players. (Note, with OT, this is rare for me to scout guys that deep because of how athletic you have to be to play the position. If they're not good enough to make a roster, then I put them in the IL category)
Second note ... I put guys on IL or OT based on where I believe they will be better players. Fautano is living at OG for me right now. So is Barton. So is Jordan Morgan (32.5 inch arms doesn't cut it). It's a game of inches. I think Rashawn Slater is the only 6-4 OLT right now?
Also, I don't assume a guy can switch from right or left for a number of reasons. The question you have to ask is, "Is this guy Tristan Wirfs?" So guys like Fuaga, Guyton and Mims ... you gotta ask. Fuaga would be top ten for me if he'd played the left side. Latham is not a left tackle. But he's going to make someone happy at ORT.
Alt and Fashanu are the best OT prospects in years IMO, and most of the guys through the top 40 are likely drafted round 1 in normal years.
Personally, I'm looking for a guy like Crum, Driskell, or Goncalves to slide ... pick him up late and work with the athleticism.
It says 24 tackles were drafted last year, but I had at least 5 as IL. There are 25 here. It's just hard to find edge protectors.
