Marty. Martyball.
Fed his coaches a lot of late-night popcorn, and took what they contributed to mold some teams with just a few pieces (and bonehead upper management) further than you'd expect.
Loved watching LaDanian Tomlinson back in the Martyball era. MArty got the most from him, got the best from him until Norv Turner did to LaDaniaan what Bum Phillips did to Earl Campbell, and Mike Martz did in the post-Warner years to Marshall Faulk - these coaches punished thos backs unmercifully by running them into the teeth of theline, time and time again, shortening their careers and not getting the best from them - and getting less from their offenses as a result. (See my Bum Philips post in this thread.)
Marty balanced the load between what Phillip Rivers could bring and LaDanian's broken field talent - behind the unsung hero of that offense, blocking fullback Lorenzo Neal. Marty could leave Neal in for pass pro when he wasn't clearing the way for LaDanian.
I sometimes daydream the impossible dream of McVay reviving the I-formation to use in the red zone or to give opposing DC's one more set of headaches to prepare against.
