I think they want to draft a WR (for 2025) as well. But depending on where they take that WR could impact Atwell.
I'm all in favor of keeping Atwell as the WR4/deep threat. He played well the first 4 games when Kupp was out. Only caught 16 passes over their final 12 games but that's what a WR4 will do.
And if they draft a WR in the 6th round or something then he's most likely a developmental player. But if they somehow draft a WR, say, in the 3rd round that player might get slotted into the WR4 spot pretty quickly. And that then does put Atwell's spot (and $1.88M cap number) into question. Maybe a late August trade candidate to someone for a late 2025 pick? Hard to say.
But again by re-signing Robinson now they have put themselves in a pretty enviable position as far as the WR position.
