I watch a lot of analysis videos on YouTube and listen to several NFL podcasts. Based on the analysis of mostly individuals who do not watch the Rams specifically, there are a lot of people who do not agree with you.
The two analysts who do the Athletic football podcast say something every other week about the design and creativity of the offensive game plans for the Rams. They watch the games just to see what McVay is going to do.

Now, does he still make some bonehead play calls? Absolutely. But I think every playcaller does. Making a bad call now and then does not prevent you from being elite.
But based on the number of non-Rams commentators I have heard who are saying McVay should be considered for Coach of the Year, I feel you may be a little harsh in your judgment.
