This is why I have such little regard for Combine testing. I used to watch every moment of it. Now I never do. None of these tests involve real football. Besides, as has been repeated a thousand times, it's not about how fast you can run or jump in shorts and track shoes, it's about how fast you can run or high you can jump in full pads while carrying a football.
The game is how well a guy plays football; not achieving high scores on tests. And, I think this has become Snead's ( and our scouting departments) primary criteria. Nacua was a great college player. So was Avila. So was Young, and so was Turner. But all these guys got pushed down by guys who tested better and/or better fit an NFL profile. Evans didn't start to punt the ball a mile only after he was drafted.
Ask any CB if Kupp or Nacua is slow. I suspect you'd get a strange look if not a sarcastic laugh.
But not only that, these are physical players who love to block. And they block exceptionally well. They are VERY cerebral guys who can diagnose on the fly, and play with incredible pain tolerance.
Nacua reminds me of a good RB when he runs. This dude knocks Safeties backwards.
We have a couple of great ones in Nacua and Kupp, but it wouldn't shock me if Snead tried for a 3rd.
