The Cleveland Browns and Rams go back a really long time

December 03, 2023 08:07PM
Before the Rams won the NFL title in 1946 there was no "Cleveland Browns"-only the Cleveland Rams. When Dan Reeves was rejected to build a new and modern Cleveland stadium he up and moved the Rams to the "new frontier" of NFL football-Los Angeles. Once that was done Cleveland formed the "Cleveland Browns" after it's coach and owner Paul Brown.

If any one is interested in the symbiotic retationship between the two organizations there are two good books on the subject: One is my favorite-" The Cleveland Rams-the NFL Champs Who Left Too Soon, 1936-1945" by James C. Sulecki.

The other is "Hollywood's Team" by Jim Jock.

As many of you know I was a lucky young boy to be sitting in the Colieum during the Cleveland Browns vs Los Angeles Rams NFL Championship game in 1951 when Van Brocklin -right in front of me-threw the winning TD (70 yds) to Tom Fears.

It's been a love affair ever since.
