In doing so, it makes EVERYTHING behind them better. We can get Caleb or whoever! But if they are not protected WITH a run game, they will be toast in a year or two. Our Defense absolutely SUCKS with no pass rush up front and that is WITH Aaron Donald! We have already seen Caleb look quite human vs tough NCAA Defenses. Wait till he gets to the NFL.

The tenor of your post seems to suggest that it's an "either or" situation and I'm not so sure that's the case.

The way I see things...while def far from perfect, I think the Rams OL (with Havs, of course) has been performing at an adequate thus far this year - certainly better than last year's pre-injury-riddled unit.

And McVay's incorporation of gap running schemes into his offense has definitely improved our rushing attack.

Kinda same story with the defense where they've exceeded expectations (at least mine) in stopping the run. Despite today's debacle, they haven't been the season-long dumpster fire that many have expected.

This means to me that there are some foundational pieces in place on both sides of the ball.

With our current draft picks (plus whatever we can add via mid-season trades) and the FA flexibility we hope to have this off-season, I see no reason why we wouldn't want to stake our claim on a highly-rated QB via the draft while plugging other holes we have via FA.

I could see us going for a CW, Drake Maye, or Michael Penix-type in round 1 and a LT or CB in round 2. In FA, you can focus on a Brian Burns or Montez Sweat.

Any scenario, really, makes us a competitive team - even with a rookie at QB.
