This fact could change your entire perspective about the LA Rams 2023 season

If you are discouraged by the LA Rams 2-3 start to the 2023 NFL season, take heart that this team is better than expected.
The LA Rams are 2-3. The team has scored 112 points on offense, and the defense has allowed 108 points to be scored. Had the football bounced the right way, had the Rams been a tad bit less penalized, had the team had the benefit of good luck, this team could be 4-1. But that is how the cookie crumbles sometimes.
We cited the fact that the Rams are simply fielding young players on the Rams roster. And young players are not the same as seasoned veterans, not yet anyway. The players are experiencing the NFL for the first time, Sure, some say that they should be learning their lessons. But it's not the same opponent, nor even the same team.
The LA Rams have played five games so far this season. Two of those games have been played at SoFi Stadium. But in both cases, against the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles, opposing teams have taken over the stadium and turned SoFi Stadium into a football field that has been so loud that the Rams offense has literally had to go with silent counts. In essence, the Rams have played the equivalent of five road games. I don't think that any NFL rookie can truly prepare for that.
Rams have plenty to be proud of
If you examine just who the LA Rams have faced this season, perhaps you will be more impressed. The Rams opponents so far have been:
Now, if you look back at the LA Rams opponents so far this season, the Rams have competed against teams that have a combined record of 18-6 so far this season. In short, the LA Rams have been competing against opposition that is the equivalent of NFL Playoff teams. Now, five games that have all been the equivalent of road games for the LA Rams team against such impressive opponents is a pretty daunting task.
And here we are, with team that is 2-3. The Rams have an incredible rookie wide receiver in Puka Nacua. The Rams have an incredible rookie edge rusher in Byron Young. The Rams essentially landed five solid NFL starters in the 2023 NFL Draft.
A playoff team? Hey, don't rule anything out just yet. The LA Rams have been competitive in each and every game so far this season. As long as the Rams stay healthier than other teams, they will start to win games that they have been losing so far.
When the LA Rams 2023 schedule was initially released, we published our expectations for this team in a game-by-game predictions article. In that article, the Rams projected to finish the season with a 5-12 record. But the Rams are already a game better than expected from that early projection. If the Rams can win two of the next four games before their BYE week, that will give this team a chance to finish better than .500 and perhaps sneak into the NFC Playoffs as a wild-card team.
It's a long season. The Rams are not quite a third of the way finished. Stay tuned.
