I guess I just look at the big 3 from the last few generations of rosters
Marshall Faulk
Drafted 2nd overall by the Colts
He's an all time bad ass. Among my most revered Rams. Granted we traded for him, but his 13 or so seasons are filled with highlights.
Steven Jackson
Just amazing player, and wholly lost on a roster that lacked firepower, and drama with coaching issues.
Todd Gurley
Pretty incredible while his star shined. And part of the reason why the mistake in how to load your financials bit us hard.
For all the trash unloaded on Jeff Fisher he did find a wealth of talent that did get rings on their fingers, or got to the big show.
I agree with the general take that one doesn't take RBs in the 1st round due to the relative short shelf life they have. If your a club one piece shy of whole on offense and it's that spot? I think you take the flyer.
Counter Take?
Trung Candidate
Had some fun tape, and I thought he would pan out. Not close. Started like 3 games. Phew.
So, this will be a good year to evaluate whether the 1st rounder is worth it.
Gibbs went to the Lions. Goff and company were far more competitive last year than most expected. Can Gibbs be their difference maker? And as a future reference what happens when he comes up for a second contract. Most of all, is this the guy that gets them deeper in to the post season this year?
There's no doubt that the league has wizened to RB values, and length of careers.
