If he plays the LBer role, next to Jones, most of the time he will be in short spaces
quarter flat, hook curl, picking up the guy who goes there---not going long distances
but that LBer can also be asked to carry the #3 receiver deep, and in that case
speed sure helps.
It's possible if he ran a 4.65 or 4.7 he'd have been drafted...because he'd be
more help on coverage teams. That is where long speed makes a difference
when you cover 40-50 yards and a tenth of a second can make enough
of a difference to matter - not all the time, but enough that coaches
want a faster guy - all things being equal.
if the slower guy is the better football player, then they want the slower guy.
He will be fun to watch because he has skills to fill a role in defense
