I'll admit that I did not like how McVay would sit starters in the preseason.
Initially.
But his results during the season were very hard to criticize. So I backed off entirely from my criticism. This last season's results can't be chalked up to preseason play. Not entirely anyways.
Other than the Big 3, it will be interesting to see how McVay plays it this year. He may play some vets to let them know their jobs are not locked in.
I think McVay does "use" the preseason but more as an evaluation opportunity and not to "get starters ready." Until 2022, McVay's team have started each season very well.
