Unitas was way, way ahead of his time (ever see him throw a no-look pass?) and deserves to be in the GOAT conversation. I'd rank him, and Marino, and Montana, and Brees ahead of Tommy Dimplechin. And, for that matter, put Kurt Warner's best games on the screen beside Brady's best games. Kurt did more with less.
My guess at Sonny Jurgenson was based on the years that he simply got the ball to Bobby Mitchell just anywhere on the field, and Mitchell would take off with it and score, seemed like at least once per game for better than 50 yards.
Pleasant surprise to learn it was Unitas. Anybody but Brady - and all the better it was someone from the pre passing emphasis of today's game. There were some outstanding football players in the days before the hashmarks got moved in and the PI rules changed.
