Yeah, if I recall correctly they paid Bert Jones something like $450k and Ferragamo $350k in 1982. That's (combined) more than double what Vince had been asking for for 1981. Ferragamo was one of the top-4 QBs in the league in 1980 (along with Jaworski, Bartkowski and Sipe). He'd earned what he was asking for.
Instead they rolled into 1981 with Haden and Pastorini who combined gave them probably among the worst QB play they've ever had in a season. Pastorini was abysmal. And of course, as you said, there are the draft picks they gave up for Jones.
