Typically, if you have a government ID card (CAC card) you get to skip the searches and keep your shoes on and all that good stuff - TSA Precheck, I think.. So, I bust out my government card, expecting to skip the search lines and, instead, I get pulled over to the side and they go through EVERYTHING I have - on me and in my bag...
Are you/they armed while flying?
I ask because I'm in law enforcement. And whenever I need to fly somewhere for work, I'll typically carry my service weapon on my person (plainclothes). Now, there's a whole pre-trip check-in process that allows me to do this, but the result is that I'm allowed to bypass the typical security checkpoints because they (TSA, pilots, and flight crew) already know that I'm carrying a gun onboard. My biggest nightmare is that I might forget to do the process (then I'd be screwed).
Now, there are pros and cons to this, but it's an absolute life-saver if you're running late!
