I know that Stafford really likes the guy. And that stuff does make a difference.
Can he survive 17 games? IMO, not a chance, but for sure it does allow them to open the year with him helming the middle, and possible training his eventual replacement.

I strongly disagree with allowing this cat to go. It's hardest part of offense to learn; He's a proven commodity; They're depth behind him doesn't exist.
If they do draft a TE 3rd round or earlier, I'd start to think they he could be that cap casualty in June
Research says they can do right by him and cut him pre-June 1st (allowed to designate 2 players to get the savings) which would allow him to catch on with another club before the "water grows cold."

Not sure what there plan is.....I was kind of convinced they were going to let him fly. And they just might do so, yet. I don't think they have the generosity with him right now that suggest they'd favor him a Pre-June 1st ditch. TBH, we never gave this cat a proper look see. Puts him the Tutu category for assets with no grade......ah we will see, eh?
