The buy high, sell low approach

I'm not a GM so I don't understand the logic. It seems to be what the Rams do... and we say we only got a "fill in low round draft pick here". Even with the Rams own draft picks, they get traded for less.

Its clear it was a salary dump. And I am cool with that but giving years' worths of number 1 picks, paying him a large amount of money and then recouping a low percentage draft pick in return... that just doesn't seem like a workable philosophy. But on some level it doesn't seem to hurt them, sort of.
