They would have to eat some money. No team would do a trade otherwise...

Giving out huge contacts that you have to eat money or give away picks to get out of is a troublesome theme.
The Rams problem is that they have given out so many bad contracts. Worse yet they have given those contracts to players that are already Rams which means they should have all the information they need to make an intelligent decision.
Gurley: Did they not know he had a troublesome knee? How could they not? He was already trending down hill when signed. Seems like a just a stupid move.
Goff: He had a year left when they signed him to a monster deal. They could have franchised him the next season if needed. But somehow things didn't work out. How the heck do you have 4 years with a guy and not know if he is your QB? Again a stupid move why go early on the contract if you weren't sure? If you were sure about him why did things go south?
Cooks: Another big contract and another guy, like Goff, who played well after leaving. Got to wonder what the heck is going on.
Allen: Big commitment to a guy with a bad knee. Again why take the risk?
Allen Robinson: At least the Rams had to project his success but how did they absolutely blow this one too?
AD: At least he has performed but after signing him to a monster deal when he was a free agent why did they have to redo his contract for is latter years in the league when he still had 2 years left? Did the Rams blink at the threat of retirement? Tony Pastoors is not a poker player.
Kupp & Stafford: I think these were reasonable deals.
Good Deals: Hav's and Higbee seemed high when they signed them but turned out to be great deals.
Wagner deal wasn't a decent deal and has minimal dead money with a July 1 release.
The impact of these bad deals has led to a failure to keep or acquire new talent. The way we have managed the cap by kicking the can down the road will come home to roost and in fact is already having a significant impact.
I am not sure who is making these decisions but McVay certainly has to be the primary input in terms of who is critical to keep. I would think Pastoors and Demoff are the primary Negotiators. I would suspect Snead if providing input on how to potentially cover any holes in the roster as a result of these big contracts. It seems that the Rams kind of suck in this area and could do a lot better.
