Sorry I don't see Randy White even in the Bob Lilly class and certainly not in Deacon Jones Zip Code. Ray Lewis was great by Butkus at ML to me was better. Sanders? Great player not sure how I feel with him on the list.
Any such list is gonna be very subjective and highly debatable.
My thinking?
Deacon Jones played in an entirely different era and was essentially a pass rusher only. Not sure how he would fit in the modern era.
Butkus also played in a different era. I would place Ray Lewis above him every which way.
Sanders was a terrific cover corner but shied away from contact. A HOF’er, but Top 5 defender? Nope.
Deacon Jones ran a 9.7 100 yard dash and was 275 lbs and was super dominate. That athleticism would stand up to best edge players we have ever seen.
Butkus versus Lewis? Hard to really think of a LB that is close to LT. Lewis to me is in a group of great MLB.
Also Dog mentioned Alan Page who to me compares to AD in terms of quickness and and beating the block. Not sure he had AD power and raw strength.
Also Mean Joe Greene and Bruce Smith to me are in the same category as Randy White.
