I'm starting to think we've misunderstood Mcvay's thinking

Here are the top playcallers in the NFL (old article technically but take a look):

1. Andy Reid
2. Sean Mcvay
3. Kyle Shannahan
4. Matt Lafleur
5. Doug Peterson
6. Byron Leftwhich
7. Nick Sirriani
8. Mike Mcdaniel
9. Josh Mcdaniels
10. Frank Reich

The list goes on and on but do you notice something? Most offensive-minded head coaches call their own plays. Mcvay is actually not unique or a unicorn in that regard. So on second thought, I'm beginning to believe that Mcvay isn't looking for a guy to call plays for him. I also think this eliminates most experienced coaches because they won't want to sit on staff and not call their own plays, either. I think Mcvay is cleaning house because he needs people who match his attention to detail and commitment. It's easier to do your job when you have the right people in the building with you. So it might not be about big names as much as it's about people he knows will be as intense as he is.

Exactly. And when everybody else's failure impacts the overall product
