Impact -and salaries - of HCs vs QBs

January 13, 2023 01:13PM
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that Head Coaches are woefully underpaid in the NFL?

There are only a handful of HCs that make more than $10M per year. A top HC can be had for the price of an above average backup QB.

I think you could argue that aside from (possibly) starting QBs, the HC has the greatest impact on a team's success. Yet the top QBs are getting paid $40M per year right now, and the top HCs less than a third of that. And the coach salary doesn't even impact the salary cap.

I just don't get why owners aren't dangling ridiculous amounts of money to try to get the top coaching candidates. Let's be honest, there are probably only about 10 coaches who are real difference makers year to year. How many schlubs did we go through before finally hitting on McVay? And look at the difference McVay made in just his first year here.

Any thoughts on why the best coaches are not making $$$ similar to top players?
