Stressed out or not, life HAS to go on, especially if your position affects the lives of others (I believe that is what you were trying to get across?) As a now retired Firefighter, I saw guys at the bottom of the ranks lose it and guys making District Chiefs pay lose it. I did 35 and a half years total. I was running on fumes for my last 3-4 years. I consider myself lower /middle of the road in FF pay. Income had nothing to do with my running out of steam. Stress is stress. Homeless or in a Mansion, stress is a dangerous thing. I went from zero medications to four in my last year on the job. Three promotions would not have changed that.
But with all of that said, I DO think McVay needs to make some sort of decision because this does involve other people and THEIR stress levels.
