This last summer my granddaughter who was 11 at the time spent a week with her girlfriend at "Grandma Camp". That is our home in So Cal. One day was a planned excursion to Rodeo Dr to visit all the stores. I continued to refuse until my wife said she didn't think she could drive both ways. Was I ever glad I went. Just following these two girls in and out of the stores where uniformed personnel guarded each entrance was a blast. They kept looking at themselves in the mirrors and sashaying back and forth holding dresses that cost well over thousands of dollars under the careful and watchful eye of what appeared to be armed guards. What a blast-they were pure joy. Did they (we) buy anything ? Two ice cream cones !
My wife had made lunch reservation at a famous hotel that all the John Bellucci fans will recognize. The Chateau Marmont -location where Bellucci died on an overdose. Of course neither of these kids knew anything about the great comedian. The sitting was outside in a garden and William Macy was sitting a few tables away. That was impressive for the girls.
In any event it was a marvelous outing and I'm so glad I was "guilt forced" to go Sometimes the things you least want to do turn out to be the most memorable. Of course granddaughter wants to return this coming summer to grandma camp and learn how to surf. Truth be told-I'm thinking Beverly Hills again-same hotel luncheon, etc.
