In 2006 the Cardinals finished with an 83-78 record (1st in NL Central) and barely made it into the playoffs as a Wild Card. And yet, they went all the way and won the World Series. Lots of folks grumbled and complained because we were NOT the best team in baseball. We sure didn't have a stellar record like other teams during the regular season. But Albert Pujols had a wonderful response for all the naysayers who felt the Cardinals were a sorry team. He said: "We were the best team when it counted", which was so true. I've never forgotten that.
