There's a nice mall about 7 miles from where I live and I can't remember the last time I was there. I used to love to go to malls about 30 years ago. I always ran into people I knew and I just loved casually browsing, walking, and window shopping. Occasionally I'd treat myself to lunch at the food court. There's a more "local" shopping area about 5 miles from where I live as well. It's not really a mall, but more like a large strip mall with other stores and restaurants nearby or right across the street: JC Penney, Lowe's, Kohl's, Target, Wal-Mart, grocery store, Gordman's, Carter's, Sports Clips, Michael's. Most of the time I can find whatever I need at these stores and have no need to go to the mall. As in most cities, there were malls that were thriving when we first moved to St Louis in 1993 which are now dead and razed over. It's kind of a shame.
