Actually, I never tried "guessing" my heart rate. I did have a combination wrist watch and heart rate monitor. But I rarely used the monitor part. That was more as a warning for a heart attack.

I had a trainer for a couple of years, a former Mr. Ohio, who taught me how to read my body and fatigue levels. And I have stuck with that philosophy.
